How to start the conversation about commissions: Paintings are a more substantial recording of an image, and carry emotional weight; but there are other reasons to choose an oil painting rather than a photograph. Think about the reason your idea will be better as a painting than a photo; is there inadequate documentation of a past event or person? Are we recreating a real event from the best photos we can cobble together? Do you want to bring together multiple images into one superior image? Do you want to capture an entire day, rather than a single moment?
Share your thoughts about what you hope to accomplish in your initial email so we can start the conversation from a place of mutual understanding. We’ll continue the conversation as we develop the initial sketch, so don’t worry if the words aren’t flowing yet. This is just to get things started. It’s ok if you’re not sure.
